Eco Del Sur
Latin American Music
Eco Del Sur means “echoes of the south” and the group was founded in 2000 with the idea to preserve the heritage and culture of different Latin American regions. The group’s first album was released in 2001.
The music of Eco Del Sur includes a wide range of styles and rhythms, which takes the audience to a musical journey through Latin America. The band performs a variety of Caribbean music such as guajiras, sons, boleros, bachatas, cumbias, etc. that were influenced by the African culture. The band also performs Andean and Latin folk music that were greatly influenced by the Pre-Columbian and Spanish heritage and culture.
Contemporary and traditional musical instruments used by Eco Del Sur include congas, bongos, tambora, guitar, electric bass, zampoñas, quenas, charango, mandolin, bombo, Peruvian cajon, maracas, guiro, claves, and rain sticks.
Eco Del Sur has performed at large festivals and venues such Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA; North Charleston Festival, SC; Communiversity Festival, Princeton; Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA; University of Princeton, NJ; Detroit Institute of Arts, MI; World Cafe, Philadelphia, PA; and numerous festivals and libraries in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.
In addition to the concerts and performances, Eco Del Sur also conducts workshop, demonstrations, and residencies at schools and public institutions. The entertaining and educational programs are a great opportunity for students to learn more about the geography, history, cultures, and music from several Latin American regions.
